aditional sense, but she can “combat crawl” (drag herself along on her elbows) with the best of the Marines. Wally and Alpha seem to be her biggest motivators - when one of them sits down in her line of sight, she squirms over there very quickly and reaches for that soft fur. Alpha runs away when Emily gets too close. Wally, though he looks none too happy when we feed Emily or give her attention, has been amazingly patient with her and will usually allow a few pets before moving out of her reach. Of course, I’m sure that is helped by all the praise we give Wally during such encounters…Emily’s diet is increasing weekly, including many (pureed) fruits, vegetables, chicken, turkey, and tonight we start beef. She is very vocal and Sean and I love when her babblings include strings of Dadadadada or Mamamamama. We realize she doesn’t know what she’s saying yet, but it is fun to hear those words from that tiny voice!
The parents of one of Emily’s “classmates” just sent a picture they took at daycare the other day and I wanted to share it, especially for those who didn’t get to see us in Michigan last week. Speaking of daycare, Emily seems to love it. In fact, she doesn’t want to miss a minute of it and rarely naps there. I think she spends a lot of time studying the other babies because when we get home (after a long nap in the car) she likes to get down on the floor and practice moving in different ways.
I am feeling pretty content with our schedule now – Emily is at daycare Mon, Wed, Fri and I work from home with her Tues and Thurs. That way, Emily gets to spend time with other babies and learn she can trust other adults (though she does seem to be clinging to me a little more lately), and I get to stay involved in my interesting work, but we still get to spend lots of time together.
I guess those are the highlights of life right now.
